My story
I have PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) which is a hereditary disease. I was diagnosed in 2011 and my kidney disease has progressed within the last year. I am at End Stage 5, my kidneys are functioning less than 15%. I am currently on dialysis. Dialysis is basically a band aid. A kidney donor - I only need one kidney -would help me live. A living donor is my best option.
I am O positive - if you have my blood type then you would be my best match, HOWEVER, there is the option of the donor voucher program that would match you closer to someone in need and then would help bump me up the wait list.
Typically - the wait for me in regard to a living donor is approximately SIX years. A cadaver kidney 7-10 years. I am praying every day that I do not have to wait more than a year.
Receiving a transplant would mean so much to me. It would allow me to live a more normal life, the opportunity to watch my kids grow further into their young adulthood and my youngest through her high school years and beyond. I have been a huge advocate of the awareness of PKD and for others who have the same disease.
ABOUT ME
Hi, I'm Corey and I am a 43 almost 44 year old woman searching for a living kidney donor. I was born in Northern California, and still live in Northern California, specifically the Vacaville area. I live with my boyfriend and daughter, my bonus kids are older and visit when they can, one works in town locally and one is in the Navy.
We love to spend time with our pup, our bird, frog and turtle. We also love to go thrifting, antiquing, sometimes a trip to the beach and our local zoo. I am passionate about creativity, I love old movies especially anything with John Wayne or Elvis. I have three degrees, all based around Fire Science and Public Administration, Associates, Bachelor's, and a Master's. I love helping others and giving back to my community.
